- Register utilities and set billing details — Notify providers and confirm start dates to avoid misbilling.
- Check plumbing and run hot water — Turn on taps, flush toilets, inspect under sinks for leaks or drips.
- Test appliances and note faults — Run oven, stove, fridge, washer/dryer and log any issues or noises.
- Exchange emergency and contact details with landlord/agent — Confirm emergency repair process and best contact methods.
- Obtain and sign inventory and condition report — Ensure both parties sign and keep a dated copy for your records.
- Set up renter's insurance — Arrange basic contents and liability cover as soon as possible.
- Secure proof of tenancy and store documents — Scan or photo the lease, signed inventory, receipts, and store in cloud.
- Update your address and setup mail forwarding — Notify post, banks, employer, and subscriptions of your new address.
