• Change your address and update important accounts

  Use USPS forwarding and update banks, subscriptions, and employers

• Buy renter's insurance

  Compare quotes and start a policy before moving valuables in

• Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

  Replace batteries and run a test of each alarm

• Buy and place a kitchen fire extinguisher

  Choose an ABC-rated extinguisher and check its pressure tag

• Secure entry locks and get spare keys
