This checklist helps you prepare your campervan or RV for a safe, comfortable road trip. It’s for weekenders and long-haul travelers who want to cover vehicle checks, utilities, campsite bookings, safety gear and waste planning.

  1. Verify driving licence category and permits — Confirm licence covers vehicle weight and any required endorsements or towing permits
  2. Confirm campsite reservations and arrival details — Save booking references, note arrival window and site rules
  3. Perform vehicle service check: oil, brakes, tyres, lights — Top up fluids, check tyre pressure/tread, test lights and indicators
  4. Check fuel level and refuel if below half tank — Plan fuel stops on remote routes and note diesel/LPG stations
  5. Refill LPG/propane cylinders and test stove ignition — Secure cylinders, check regulator seals and test for leaks
  6. Top up freshwater tanks and sanitize taps if needed — Carry jerrycans and a water filter or purifier as backup
  7. Empty and secure cassette and greywater tanks; plan disposal — Locate dump stations, pack waste hose, gloves and seals
  8. Pack levelling ramps, wheel chocks and stabiliser legs — Practice positioning ramps and use a spirit level for accuracy
  9. Pack electrical hookup gear: mains cable, adapters, and extension — Include RCD adapter, suitable plug adapters and an extension cable
  10. Check leisure battery, solar charging and spare fuses — Test battery charge, check regulator and bring jumper leads
  11. Prepare cooking setup: stove, cookware, fuel and fire extinguisher — Pack pots, pans, utensils, non-perishables and a heatproof mat
  12. Pack tool kit, tyre repair kit, jack and spare tyre — Include tyre gauge, puncture repair tools and wheel nut key
  13. Secure loose items inside and stow heavy gear low — Use straps, nets and non-slip mats to prevent movement on the road
  14. Pack safety kit: first aid, torch, reflective vests and signalling — Include fresh batteries, whistle and basic repair supplies
  15. Confirm insurance, roadside assistance and vehicle documents — Carry paper and digital copies of insurance, registration and policies
