Black Friday Shopping Checklist

Write today’s price next to everything on your list, before the sales start. In 2026 Black Friday falls on November 27 and Cyber Monday on November 30. A price you wrote down weeks earlier tells you whether a sale is a real discount or the usual price under a big red banner.

Use this list in the weeks before, so the shopping itself goes quickly. It starts with the list and the budget, moves on to accounts, payment and return policies, and finishes with the orders still in transit in December.

Read the model number, not just the brand. Some sale TVs and appliances carry a model number sold at only one store, sometimes with fewer ports or features than the version you priced. With a different model number, the sale price and the price you noted are not for the same product.

  1. List what you actually need or plan to give — Put each person's name next to their gifts.
  2. Set a total spending limit — Include shipping, tax and any buy now, pay later installments in the total.
  3. Give each item on the list its own price cap
  4. Note the current price and model number of every item — A screenshot with the date works.
  5. Set price alerts or add the items to store wish lists
  6. Check which stores you will shop and when their sales start — Many stores start online deals before Black Friday, some of them weeks before Thanksgiving on November 26.
  7. Read each store's return window for holiday purchases — Some stores extend it into January and some exclude sale items. Know which before you buy.
  8. Check whether the store gives a price adjustment if the price drops later — Many policies exclude Black Friday and doorbuster prices.
  9. Sign in to your store accounts and update the shipping address
  10. Decide which card you will pay with — In the US, a credit card gives you stronger dispute rights than a debit card if an order goes wrong.
  11. Type store addresses yourself instead of clicking links in deal emails or texts — Scam emails and fake shop sites often copy real Black Friday offers.
  12. Check an unfamiliar seller's reviews and contact details before paying
  13. Compare each sale price with the price you noted
  14. Confirm the model number matches the one you priced
  15. Add up the cart against your spending limit before checking out
  16. Ask for gift receipts on anything you are giving
  17. Save every order confirmation in one email folder
  18. Note each delivery estimate next to the item on your list
  19. Pick store pickup or a delivery signature for expensive items — A package left on a doorstep can be gone before you get home.
  20. Cross items off the list as they are bought
  21. Open and test anything that might go back before the return window closes
  22. Check your card statement against your saved orders — Dispute a charge you do not recognize or an order that never arrived as soon as you spot it.
