- Evaluate storage unit options for overflow or temporary hold — Compare size, cost, climate control, and access hours.
- Pack and box keep items by priority and inventory each box — Label boxes with contents and destination room for easy unpacking.
- Pack an essentials box to open first on moving day — Include toiletries, chargers, basic kitchen items, and paperwork.
- Pack seasonal or rarely used items separately and label clearly — Store seasonals on top or in a storage unit for easy access later.
- Create a sentimental item strategy and set limits — Decide what to keep, photograph, digitize, or gift to family.
- Digitize or photograph sentimental items and store images securely — Save high-res photos and notes to cloud storage for long-term access.
- Schedule pickups, moving day logistics, and transport for large items — Book movers, truck rentals, and coordinate times for sell/donate pickups.
- Do a final walk-through to confirm discard/sell/donate decisions — Remove final trash, consolidate donation piles, and recheck measurements.
