  1. Check exterior entry and gather access info — Verify lockbox/keypad, porch lighting, and assigned parking or bins.
  2. Inspect interior rooms for damage and cleanliness — Walk each room quickly for stains, holes, odors, or missing items.
  3. Photograph and document any damage — Take timestamped photos of each room and close-ups; save copies.
  4. Test all door and window locks — Lock and unlock entry doors, deadbolts, and sliding window latches.
  5. Locate fire safety equipment and emergency exits — Check smoke/CO detectors and find extinguisher and exit routes.
  6. Test lights and electrical outlets — Flip switches and plug in a phone charger to test outlets.
  7. Run faucets and check hot water — Run hot water for 2–3 minutes and confirm temperature.
  8. Locate main water shut-off and circuit breaker — Note where to shut off water and power in an emergency.
  9. Test appliances and utilities — Confirm major appliances work before unpacking.
  10. Test kitchen appliances — Run oven, stove, microwave, and confirm fridge is cooling.
  11. Test washer, dryer, and dishwasher — Start a quick cycle or run a short program to check operation.
  12. Test TV and streaming devices — Turn on TV, check apps and remote control functionality.
  13. Verify Wi‑Fi access and run a speed test — Connect using provided name/password and run a quick speed test.
  14. Review house manual and local emergency contacts — Find host contact, Wi‑Fi password, trash rules, and emergency numbers.
  15. Confirm parking, entry codes, and trash rules — Verify permitted parking spot, gate codes, and pickup days.
  16. Report issues to the host with photos and request fixes — Include timestamps, location, and desired remedy in your message.
